Yield improvement by antitranspirant application in droughted wheat is associated with reduced endogenous abscisic acid concentration

چکیده
Drought stress reduces seed crop yields in part by causing reproductive sterility associated with increased endogenous ABA. Application of the film antitranspirant, di-1-p-menthene, during reproductive-stage drought has been shown to ameliorate yield loss wheat but physiological processes involved are not understood. Using rain shelters simulate Mediterranean-type terminal drought, we studied possibility that application antitranspirant both ABA concentration and subsequent loss. Di-1-p-menthene was sprayed on droughted spring plants (cv, Chilham) at 1.0 L/ha two separate field experiments, three growth stages between stem elongation spike emergence 2018; four anthesis 2019, unsprayed serving as control. decreased yield. reduced 33% 40%; improved grain 16% 15% averaged across all 2018 respectively. The consistent effects di-1-p-menthene years suggests mechanism amelioration is related key stages.

Pratylenchus thornei Associated with Reduced Wheat Yield in Oregon.
Pratylenchus thornei reaches high population densities in non-irrigated annual cropping systems in low-rainfall regions of the Pacific Northwest. Two spring wheat varieties with different levels of tolerance and susceptibility to P. thornei were treated or not treated with aldicarb in three experiments. Grain yield was inversely correlated (P < 0.05) with pre-plant populations of P. thornei in ...
متن کاملImproving essential oil content and yield of ajowan organs under water stress by application of salicylic acid and abscisic acid
This research was carried out in 2014 and 2015 to assess the effects of salicylic acid (SA)(0 and 1 mM) and abscisic acid (ABA) (0 and 50 µM) on essential oil content and yield ofajowan (Carum copticum L.) organs under different irrigation intervals (I1, I2, I3, I4: irrigationafter 70, 100, 130 and 160 mm evaporation, respectively). Plants were sprayed by SA and ABAat vegetative and reproductiv...
متن کاملAlleviation of Osmotic Stress Effects by Exogenous Application of Salicylic or Abscisic Acid on Wheat Seedlings
The aim of the study was to assess the role of salicylic acid (SA) and abscisic acid (ABA) in osmotic stress tolerance of wheat seedlings. This was accomplished by determining the impact of the acids applied exogenously on seedlings grown under osmotic stress in hydroponics. The investigation was unique in its comprehensiveness, examining changes under osmotic stress and other conditions, and t...
متن کاملReduced gamma-aminobutyric acid concentration is associated with physical disability in progressive multiple sclerosis.
Neurodegeneration is thought to be the major cause of ongoing, irreversible disability in progressive stages of multiple sclerosis. Gamma-aminobutyric acid is the principle inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain. The aims of this study were to investigate if gamma-aminobutyric acid levels (i) are abnormal in patients with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis compared with healthy controls...
متن کاملPlant-Parasitic Nematodes Associated with Reduced Wheat Yield in Oregon: Heterodera avenae.
Heterodera avenae is widely distributed in the western United States, where most wheat is grown in non-irrigated winter wheat/summer fallow rotations in low rainfall regions. Economic and social pressures have motivated growers to pursue a transition from winter wheat/summer fallow rotation to no-till annual spring cereals. Annual cereals are also planted in some irrigated fields. The impact of...
